It's a bad day to start your office work when you press the power button on your computer and nothing happens. It's frustrating when your computer won't boot.
Relax and do not fear because all of your files may not be lost! Read more to understand the basic checking and know why your computer do not respond when you press that power button.
Do the basic checking
Check the following for Desktop computers;
  • Plug in the outlet - sometimes you can forget the you did not plug the power cord to the outlet and you press the power button and sees that nothing happens and you start panicking.
  • Plug in the UPS or AVR - sometimes AVR models has a 110v and 220v that a user do not know they might plug it to the wrong voltage and that's why the computer won't boot. Note to all technicians out there, teach your end users about the AVR usage.
  • Check the power supply connections inside the cpu, if all is connected, the fan in the heat sink, motherboard fan and the power supply fan is spinning then the power source is ok.
  • Try using another power supply with the same wattage; for example: 500W, 530W and etc.
Note: If the following statements above is in good conditions then its time for you to give it the computer technicians to do advance checking.

Check the following for Laptop computers;
  • Battery - Remove and return back the battery then press the power-on button.
  • Try removing the battery and power-on the laptop using just the ac adapter.
Note: If removing the battery goes to normal boot then your battery might be the problem and you will need to replace it. But sometimes even if the battery has been remove and it shows no power then its time for you to give it the computer technicians to do advance checking.
Computers that won't boot should not make you panic because your files are probably ok. Sometimes computers that do not boot is caused by human error or forgetfulness to check if everything is in place.
